Michael Scheibach, Ph.D., takes you back to the days of the Cold War and "duck 'n cover" drills in his talk titled, Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow: Living with the Atomic Bomb: 1945-1965. The presentation provides a fast-paced multimedia view of the early years of the Atomic Age, when "the bomb" permeated American society: at home, at work, in the community, and at school. The presentation features images from magazines, newspapers, comic books, and government publications, as well as excerpts from TV programs and movies, an array of atomic toys, and other atomic artifacts. The presentation covers both the deadly serious nature of the atomic bomb, and the humorous and sometimes downright laughable response to the bomb. If you lived through this era, come to relive the times. If you are too young to remember this era, come to learn how "the bomb" shaped the lives of your parents and grandparents.
