Eddie’s personal story is the embodiment of the adage, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” For Eddie, the outdoors was his necessity, and the Pacific Northwest was his laboratory. Using a combination of vintage photographs and physical artifacts, the presentation will tell the story of how one young man’s passion became an international brand’s identity; and how the Pacific Northwest—from Puget Sound to the Palouse—was a highly influential partner in this development. From the first down jacket patented in America to the first down-insulated flight suit worn by the U.S. Army Air Forces to the down equipment worn by the first Americans to summit Mt. Everest, adventure-driven innovation has been at the core of the Eddie Bauer brand. This tradition continues today with its award-winning First Ascent line of mountaineering gear, guide-built and tested on the highest mountains and in the harshest environments on Earth.
