In this talk, participants learn about water scarcity and its effects both globally and at local levels here in Washington State. Participants are challenged to consider how they value water in its different uses, and explore whether taking an ethical approach to water issues changes how we manage and govern water on our increasingly thirsty and crowded planet.

Apr 13   Wait Until Dark - Masquers of Soap Lake
Soap Lake - The suspenseful thriller that promises to have audiences on the edge of their seats, Wait Until Dark, opens April 13 at the Masquers Theater. Directed by Nick Mahaney and Heather Rhoades, this white-knuckle thriller will have audiences sleeping with their lights on.
A sinister con man, Roat, played by Adam Zaleski, and two ex-convicts (Darryl Pheasant and Jesse Huntwork) meet their match when they trace a mysterious doll to the apartment of Sam Hendrix, played by Justin Rowland, and his blind wife Susy, played by Laura Knittle.  Sam returns home from a business trip and unwittingly brings home a doll filled with contraband. When the doll goes missing, a woman is murdered, and a mystery begins to unravel.  Susy and her young neighbor, played by newcomer Sandria Sanford, end up in a battle of wits with a ruthless con man.  Light becomes dark as the tables are turned in a deadly game of cat and mouse — all leading to a “gripping finish.”  Mark Beyer and Bob Jasman round out the cast as the policemen.
Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 and Sundays at 2:00 April 13 through April 29. Tickets are $14 General Admission, $10 Seniors and Students, and may be purchased at www.masquers.com or by calling the box office at (509) 246-2611.  This show is not recommended for children.

Apr 17   Bonus BAH For April with Man Up Crusade
Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce
BONUS BAH

NEW HOPE
MAN UP CRUSADE
AND
COLUMBIA BASIN ELKS LODGE

New Hope is partnering with the Elks to host a Bonus Business After Hours event.  New Hope will highlight and feature the Man Up Crusade that the Moses Lake Rodeo Association has been actively participating in—to the benefit of New Hope.  The MLRu has been visibly participating by asking the community to come to the rodeo on Saturday night of fair week wearing purple to show support.  In fact, the rodeo association has their own purple western shirts they proudly wear many times throughout the year as they bring awareness of domestic violence to our community.

A little history on where the Man Up Crusade came from…
The Man Up Crusade was created by Canyon County Sheriff, Kieran Donahue. Kieran grew up on a cattle ranch in Eastern Idaho and learned from an early age the definition of hard work and dedication.  His western heritage taught him strong family values and gave him the strength to overcome trials and tribulations.

As Kieran’s career in law enforcement developed, he saw first-hand the traumatic affects that domestic violence has on victims and their families. Domestic Violence has become an epidemic in our society and is a public health and safety issue - it is with these facts in mind that Kieran began this journey called the Man Up Crusade.

Kieran and his wife Jeanie live the western lifestyle everyday and what a better tie in to their program than the American Cowboy…people all over country idolize the cowboy image and the western way of life.  The cowboy is an iconic figure of strength, conviction and fortitude. The cowboy never backs away from a job or never quits until the task before him is finished. The cowboy understands the fundamental belief that right is right and wrong is wrong.  It is the goal of the Man Up Crusade to celebrate this courageous spirit and be an example to people everywhere that we can stand up for what is right and help put an end to domestic violence.

New Hope will be selling purple bandanas at this exciting Bonus BAH event so folks can prepare for opportunities to wear purple and share in the responsibility of bringing awareness and support of New Hope’s Domestic Violence services.  New Hope will also have the night’s door prize—two tickets to Watershed, donated by Sheriff Tom Jones.

From now until the rodeo, New Hope will be selling raffle tickets for some great prizes (wine, jewelry, a trip) that will be raffled off on Saturday night of Rodeo!  New Hope has raffle tickets available for sale at our office and will have them available for sale at the Bonus BAH event as well.

Refreshments: 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Presentation: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Moses Lake Museum & Art Center, 401 S. Balsam St.
Cost: FREE
Event Sponsors: Humanities Washington and the Daughters of the American Revolution Karneetsa Chapter

One-hundred years ago in 1917, the US entered The Great War to fight alongside our European allies. But Washington’s home front experience began long before the country entered the war, and continued afterward.

This talk is presented by Humanities Washington and the Washington State Historical Society in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of America’s involvement in World War I.

Led by historian Lorraine McConaghy, the program begins with an illustrated introduction to the war’s themes before offering a “Readers’ Theater:” a script that is read aloud together, allowing participants to speak the history they are discovering. The script includes excerpts from newspapers, diaries, writings, speeches, and correspondence, and is based on extensive research in primary source material focused on the war’s impact on Washington - and how Washington impacted the war. The reading covers the period between the successful Prohibition referendum in 1914 through Seattle’s General Strike and President Woodrow Wilson’s visit to Washington in 1919. Learn about and discuss this dramatic period of immigration, wartime industrialization, women’s rights, social change, radical labor, epidemic disease, and worldwide turmoil.

Jun 22 - Jun 24   Crescent Bar River Fest
Crescent Bar River Fest returns to the Columbia June 22-24, 2018!

In 2015, the INT League and Sunshine Marketing hosted the first annual Crescent Bar River Fest to reinvigorate a community that had seen a summer of hardship the year before. The event was a great success for the residents, guests, and local businesses. We had such a great response, that in 2018 we will to host the fouth annual CBRF over the course of three days with more activities to include more of the local community and attract additional out of town guests.

The weekend will include an INT League Amateur Waterski & Wakeboard tournament on Saturday, Golf Tournament on Sunday, along with a number of other onshore activities. This year we are hoping to add a fun run as well.

For years the Crescent Bar waterski tournament was one of the best and well-attended contests on the west coast. Many of us have fond memories of friends and families gathering together at the Crescent Bar park for a weekend of competition and fun! This is such a fun tradition to carry on!

We expect hundreds of participants at the water sports event, waterski clinic, golf tournament, VIP wake surf experience, plus many additional guests who will be attending with their families and friends to spectate!
