Dr. Cornell Clayton leads a lively discussion about some of the connections and what they mean. He charts the changes over the last 30 years and challenges assumptions about the relationship between civility and democratic participation. Dr. Clayton explores factors that contribute to political polarization.
Dr. Cornell Clayton has been a visiting fellow and lecturer at institutes and universities around the world. He is the Director of the Thomas S. Foley Institute for Public Policy and Public Service at Washington State University, where he also serves as the Thomas S. Foley Distinguished Professor of Government. A prolific author, he publishes widely on American government, politics and law. Dr. Clayton currently serves as editor of Political Research Quarterly and as a Section Chair of the American Political Association. He received a Doctorate of Philosophy from Oxford University. Past distinctions include Fulbright and Truman Scholarships, the C.O. Distinguished Professorship, and the Wayne N. Aspinall Chair. Clayton currently lives in Pullman.
